I think this was the best season they've ever had. This show has honestly been able to completely make me change my beliefs or understanding of the world before and I'm really going to need them to put things into perspective this fall. I think we're all gonna need South Park to talk us down from the edge when it comes time to vote in November. The general election will still be interesting, but nothing like the circus that these primaries have been. Ted Cruz eating boogers and accidentally elbowing and punching his wife after he suspended his campaign, Carly Fiorina falling of the stage, everything with Clinton and Bernie. It really sucks that South Park doesn't have any episodes this spring, all the shit going on in the primaries would have been amazing. However, I think that because this season was treated more like a modern television show with full season continuity, we will be able to take a deeper snapshot of what we were experiencing as a society. I think season 19 will continue to paint a historical snapshot of our society. Personally, I've always enjoyed watching episodes from the past because they are snapshots of the issues we were facing. This season felt so markedly different from others that I wonder if in 10 years we'll see episodes like 'Tweak x Craig' and think "Oh yea, this is that weird season." I love watching the old episodes without really having to remember what all is going on that season (except whether Garrison is a man or woman, etc.). I also worry that episodes from this season won't be as watchable in the future as old episodes are now. If anything the only weird thing about the whole episode was whatever the fuck was going on with cartman. And I would argue was also the best episode of the season. Tweak X Craig has been a fandom thing for ages though, so it's not like it's exactly unfounded. But there's always going to be that angle. Is much the same as going back to some of the early stuff that was referencing something that was in the news and going, WTF is going on I don't know why? is going to be just as big of an issue in 10 years.Īdmittedly I say this as someone from outside the US so sometimes we are less likely to see some of the stories that are being referenced. The thing about saying in 10 years time you'll look back on it and go oh it's that weird season. Much in the same way you talk about whether Mr garrison is a man or woman. Just read our announcement on politics found HERE.īut realistically the continuity stuff was mostly background for a large part of the season.
